A brief history of Tomelier

First there were grapes…

Then there was wine…

Then there were the Wine Pilots of Tomelier…

 In 2018, we were working away in our day jobs, talking with gusto about the wine we worked with day in, day out. However, we both realised that the more we passed on our knowledge of wine to the general public, the more eager we were to help people learn and understand the liquid they were buying. Out of this desire to get people knowing the ins-and-outs of the gracious grape, Tomelier was born!

A passionate enthusiast, I left the legal world following the birth of my daughter in 2016. Wanting a new challenge (and an excuse to drink more wine) I fell in to the wonderful world of wine. In  2017 I was awarded a Distinction in the Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET) level 3 Award in Wine, winning the prestigious Michael Cox Vintners’ Award in the process.  Coming from a family of educators it was only a matter of time before I joined the profession, but of course with wine the subject of choice!

I have been in the wine industry for 14 years, starting as a simple Saturday lad in my home city of Birmingham, eulogising about the only South African red that I knew anything about at the time. Throughout the rest of my career, I have achieved accredited professional qualifications from the Wine and Spirits Educational Trust, including the Advanced Certificate Level 3 and Diploma (one of only 9,500 people in the world who have it!); gone on countless voyages to discover new and interesting wines, from Gloucester to Mendoza and discovered the perfect formula for getting red wine stains from your teeth (glass of sparkling water and a bit of cheese, for your info)!
